MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS;
1. RE-ARRANGING YOUR RUGS AND FURNITURE PERIODICALLY WILL ALLOW THE FLOOR TO AGE EVENLY.
2. CONSIDER USING A COLOR FILL PRODUCT TO REPAIR MINOR DAMAGES
3. USE PROTECTIVE MATS/CARPETS AT ENTRANCES TO COLLECT DIRT, ASPHALT, GRIT ETC. BUT DO NOT USE RUBBER OR FOAM BACKED AS THEY CAN POSSIBLY DISCOLOR YOUR FLOOR.
4. ALWAYS, ALWAYS USE FELT PADS ON BOTTOMS OF TABLES, CHAIRS AND FURNITURE THAT HAS DIRECT CONTACT WITH HARDWOOD. REMEMBER TO WIPE OFF FLOOR PADS OCCASIONALLY AS THEY CAN COLLECT DIRT AND SCRATCH YOUR FINISH.
5. MAINTAIN 40% TO 50% HUMIDITY AT ALL TIMES TO MINIMIZE EXPANSION AND CONRACTION OF WOOD. THE USE OF A HUMIDIFIER WILL HELP PREVENT EXCESS MOVEMENT OF YOUR PRODUCT.
HERE ARE A FEW EASY HELPFUL HINTS:
1. AVOID SHARP OBJECTS AS THEY CAN LEAVE SCRATCHES OR INDENTATIONS
2. AVOID WEARING HIGH HEELS, SPIKES OR CLEATS IN THE HOUSE
TRIM YOUR PETS' NAILS
3 .USE A DOLLY OR ¼" PLYWOOD WHEN MOVING HEAVY FURNITURE OR APPLIANCES. NEVER TRY TO SLIDE OR ROLL HEAVY OBJECTS ACROSS FLOOR, I.E. REFRIGERATOR.
Let's address the screen and recoat process.
There is no better way to maintain the beauty of your floor and ensure your floor will not need to be resanded in the future than to keep to a good screen and recoat schedule. Most hardwood floors will need to be re-coated every 3 to 5 years, but this is only an average. High traffic areas (ie kitchens, foyers, mudrooms) may need to be coated more frequently, but formal living areas or bedrooms may never need re-coating. This process will address normal wear and surface scratches. It will not fix deep scratches, sun faded areas, gauges, discoloration from excessive wear, etc.
To screen and recoat, your floor is lightly sanded (buffed) and one or two coats of polyurethane are then applied. This will take one or two days, depending on the number or coats applied. Please note, waxed floors cannot be screened and coated as the polyurethane will not adhere to the wax finish. Also, never use any of the following products on your floor, as the film left behind will not allow for proper adhesion of the polyurethane from a "screen and recoat" process:
1,. Any type of paste wax
2. Furniture dusting polishes and waxes
3. Oil soap products
4. Petroleum based cleaners
5. Ammonia based cleaners
Usage of these products will only leave you one option…………... complete refinishing of your floors.
